What registration, screening checks and the Code of Conduct mean day to day — and exactly how to make a complaint.
Safeguards only work when participants know how to use them. Here is the short version.
Screening
Workers in risk-assessed roles must hold a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check. You can ask to see the clearance status of anyone supporting you.
The Code of Conduct
It applies to every provider and worker, registered or not: act with respect, provide safe and competent support, communicate honestly, and prevent and respond to violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Making a complaint
- Start with the provider's complaints process and ask for it in writing.
- Escalate to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission on 1800 035 544 at any time — you do not have to complain to the provider first.
- You can bring an advocate. Advocacy is free through state advocacy services.
