What to do in the first week you notice the shortfall, and what evidence actually supports a plan variation.
Underspending and overspending both cause problems at review. Overspending causes them sooner. Move quickly and methodically.
Week one
- Get a current statement showing spend by category and funding period.
- Identify the top two categories driving the burn rate.
- Check for duplicate or incorrect claims and dispute them.
Then triage
Reduce lower-priority supports before touching health and safety supports. Move flexible funding where the rules allow. Ask providers about lower-cost group options for social supports.
If you need a variation
You will need evidence that your situation or needs changed: a therapy report, a hospital discharge summary, a carer's changed capacity, or a documented incident. "We spent it faster than expected" is not a change of circumstances.
